What is PrEP
PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis)
A daily prescription medication that, if taken as prescribed, can help prevent HIV up to 99%. PrEP is a preventative method for those with an HIV- negative status who are susceptible to getting HIV.
Truvada and Descovy are two approved pills for the use of PrEP. Both pills are equally effective in preventing HIV. Truvada is for people at risk through sex or injection drug use. Descovy is not yet approved for those who are assigned female at birth who are vulnerable of HIV through receptive vaginal sex.

For maximum protection
Take once a day as prescribed by your doctor.
Number of days to wait from medication onset:
Receptive anal sex (bottoming) = 7 days of daily use.
Receptive vaginal sex and injectable drug use = 21 days of daily use.
Is PrEP right for you?
PrEP is for individuals who have a negative HIV status and are susceptible to HIV.
You have more than one sexual partner.
You don't always use condoms (external or internal) when having intercourse.
You have been diagnosed with an STD/STI in the past 6 months.
You have a sexual partner with an HIV positive status.
You injected intravenous drugs in the past six months and or shared needles, syringes, or other injection equipment in the past 6 months.
