What is Monkeypox MPX
Monkey Pox is clinically termed as MPX.
Human monkeypox (MPX) is a zoonotic disease caused by the monkeypox virus (MPXV).
Monkeypox symptoms usually start within 3 weeks of exposure to the virus.
MPX typically lasts for 2 - 4 weeks.
Rash
Fever
Chills
Exhaustion
Headache
Swollen lymph nodes
Muscle aches and backache
Respiratory symptoms (sore throat, nasal congestion)
In some cases no symptoms are reported.
Symptoms
Transmission
Close Contact
Direct contact with monkeypox rash, scabs, or bodily fluids.
Touching objects, fabrics, and surfaces that have been recently used by someone with monkeypox.
Contact with respiratory excretion.
Intimate Contact
Oral, anal, and vaginal sex or touching the genitals of a person with monkeypox.
Body contact like hugging, massage, and kissing.
Prolonged close face-to-face contact.
Non disinfected sex toys and fetish gear.
Pregnancy
The CDC has confirmed that pregnant women can pass the virus through the placenta to their fetus. Data regarding pregnant transmission is limited.
Treatment
To limit the transmission, and potential spread of the virus use gauze to cover the exposed rash or infected area.
Do not attempt to pop or scratch the rash or lesions.
Refrain from shaving the infected area.
Clean and keep the infected area dry.
Wash hands often with soap and water.
Wear gloves if the exposed rash or lesion is on your hands.
Wear a mask to reduce respiratory transmission.
